TOUR DESCRIPTION & ITINERARYHistory comes alive with this walking tour through the heart of Barcelona! Over three hours, your expert guide will lead you through Barcelona’s Old Town, which includes the Gothic Quarter, Jewish Quarter, El Born and Raval neighborhoods. Perfect for history buffs, this tour will take you on a journey back in time as you explore the medieval streets of the city and see both popular highlights and hidden gems.
You’ll start in the Raval neighborhood, first stopping at La Boqueria Market. This famous market is one of the oldest of Barcelona’s 39 fresh food markets, as well as one of the largest. You’ll get the chance to pore over the nearly 1,000 stalls, seeing everything from cheese and wine to mushrooms and candies. Your guide will set aside time for stopping at one of the many tapas bars for a coffee, allowing you the chance to observe this bustling hub. After this short break, the tour continues through the Raval. After a walk through the courtyard of Barcelona’s oldest hospital – now home to the city’s Fine Arts School – your guide will lead you across the famous Ramblas. This long, pedestrian street runs through the center of Old Town, serving as a dividing line between the Raval neighborhoods and the Gothic Quarter. This is truly a street that never sleeps, so keep your eyes peeled for performers and vendors! As your guide takes you through the Gothic Quarter, you’ll see some of the highlights of Barcelona history, including the ancient church that’s home to the Gigants – 12-foot tall statues that are paraded around the city throughout the year. You’ll even get to try some of Spain’s incredible olive oil before getting a stunning view of the city from atop an ancient building. From there, you’ll cover more of the Gothic Quarter, including the Jewish Quarter, Civil War battle sights, Roman ruins, a mural painted by Picasso, the Cathedral of Barcelona and even Christopher Columbus’ signature! The tour concludes in the artsy Born neighborhood, where you’ll see the Passeig del Born and ruins of houses destroyed during the War of Succession. WHAT'S INCLUDED

"A great time had by all!"
We were met at the exact time (no waiting) and our tour with our friendly, knowledgeable, fun and full of interesting information guide, Teresa. The Old Town tour was constantly being customized for us on the go. If we wanted to see more of something, we saw more. If was wanted to see less, we saw less. If we were interested in a specific part of history, we saw it. If we weren’t, we didn’t. It was a great experience. Teresa was very informative and provided in the information in a manner that was fun and easy to understand.

"Couldn't have been better!"
Nancy led the “Old Town Walking Tour.” It set the foundation for understanding the Roman history and middle ages in Barcelona. Nancy also brought us to Hotel Espana's Modernista public rooms. We had time to do some shopping as well. A highlight was a stop at a charming café serving crispy, flavorful churros with dark chocolate sauce.
